Summer is almost upon us and while the majority of the two counties are getting ready for vacations and breaks from school, we are all gearing up for the high season, be it in the field or in the office. There are a few updates from the union front that I wanted to share. We have a new Sergeant-of-Arms! Matt McDonell is replacing Nathan Rockwell. Nate's tenure on the EBoard was brief. He was kind enough to step in to fill a vacant role midterm and brought with him a unique mix of sage wisdom and humor that was a great asset. We are all immensely thankful for him taking the time to fight the good fight and his eloquent readings of the Code of Conduct will be missed. Matt McDonell, Park Supervisor at Redwood, is joining the EBoard with not only experience but one of the most accomplished beards in the District. I look forward to working with him and learning as much as I can. Also, your Fire Department was in the news... twice. As you know, we are advocating for a 24-hour shift pilot program. I would share more information, but you'll get a better narrative from reading the article! The Oaklandside article is located under Communications, and a video clip from ABC7 News can be found below. Also, a friendly reminder to join the next membership meeting. No pasaran, William
Esteemed 2428 Members, we have a pivotal vote happening today Wednesday, July 16th at Las Trampas from 9am-6pm. It gives our temporary, seasonal and intermittent colleagues more rights and protections. They are ALREADY a part of our union thanks to AB 1484 that went into effect on January 1, 2024. This enabled your leadership team to bargain for even more protections and rights for your fellow colleagues and create multiple pathways to permanency. A negotiations team, which included your vice President, chief steward, and affected members including interpretive student aides and recreation leaders, was created and began bargaining with management in January 2025. Your Negotiations team is recommending a YES vote. This tentative agreement by no means takes away from your permanent positions, nor does it impact permanent members in a negative way.
